Current Activities

Some of the current activities of the Committee are:

  • Recruiting to the committee and broadening our mandate to all types of diverse abilities and forms of inclusion
  • Exploring ways to encourage accessibility assessments as part of development planning in CVRD
  • Consulting with the Vancouver Island Regional Library executive to discuss accessibility in the renovations at the Courtenay library
  • Participated in the Poverty Reduction Assessment and Strategy and City of Courtenay OCP process
  • Participating in the Community Listening Event during Community Resilience Month to increase education and awareness about accessibility and inclusion.
  • Provided information and consultation to Emergency Support Services on how to support people with diverse abilities in an emergency
  • Reviewed draft Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Guide for Neighbours Supporting Neighbours in an emergency
  • Consulted with Comox Valley Art Gallery, CV Regional District and City of Courtenay on accessibility projects within the Art Gallery; Regional District Office and the Active Transportation 6th Street bridge.
